Dear Friends, Let me introduce you to Local Artist Geraldine Butler – the newest member of HorseSpirit Arts Gallery! Geraldine creates beautiful abstract paintings and I am thrilled to have her join us.

About the Artist: Geraldine Butler is a Maryland based painter whose work is seemingly abstract, although inspired by nature and her surroundings.

Butler received her BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and is a graduate of the Baltimore School for the Arts (BSA), where she now teaches painting part time and is a visual arts instructor in their after-school TWIGS program.

During her time at MICA, Butler studied under several renowned contemporary painters such as Mark Karnes, Barry Nemett, James Hennessey, Timothy App, and Sharon Yates, all of whom influenced her work in different ways. Butler has received several awards including juried placement and a scholarship through MICA to study abroad in Aix-en-Provence, France. She also received MICA’s Painting Department Recognition Award.

Butler’s work bridges the gap between abstract and representational painting challenging established ideas of what paintings are classified as, and in doing so, diversifies the type of art her viewers can relate to. Butler’s work is founded on her love of these two seemingly different types of painting and following many years of working directly from observation.

Butler exhibits regularly and has participated in several group and solo exhibitions throughout the country and abroad over the last two decades. Butler also participates in several art festivals throughout the region. Her studio in located in Howard County.

In closing: Please come see Geraldine’s paintings along with the original creations of over 40 Local Artists. I look forward to seeing you soon. Abundant Kindness, Robin Holliday
