Fine Arts Painter

Maryland native Brenda Kidera is a classic realist who paints landscapes and wildlife in her own backyard and in conservation areas, parks and waterways across the U.S. Her detailed oil paintings explore her passion for the birds, animals, flowers, plants, trees, ponds and streams she studies on her travels across the country and in the rural areas of Maryland where she lives. A keen observer who paints what she sees around her, Kidera captures moments in time with brushstrokes that convey the light and mood of a scene and the exquisite details of nature’s splendor. Watching the landscape she grew up in quickly disappearing, she hopes that her paintings will increase public awareness about our habitat and the flora and fauna living within it.

Beyond a fine art degree, Brenda studied classical oil painting and has attended workshops with several nationally recognized artists. Her work has been featured in many publications. Juried signature artist memberships include the Washington Society of Landscape Painters, Society of Animal Artists, Baltimore Watercolor Society, and Potomac Valley Watercolorists.

For many years, Brenda has taught painting classes and workshops and continues to paint commissioned portraits, landscapes and other subjects for a wide range of clients. Her studio is located in rural Woodbine, Maryland surrounded by gardens and wildlife, which are inspiration for many of her paintings. She lives with her husband, metal sculptor Ed Kidera, also an artist at HorseSpirit Arts Gallery.

Dear Friends, Let me introduce you to Local Artist Jennifer Hudson who just joined HorseSpirit Arts Gallery. Jennifer creates beautiful, intricate cut paper artwork.

About the Artist: Jennifer Hudson is a Maryland based artist, who has close ties to Howard County and Ellicott City in particular. An avid animal lover, Jennifer began her career as a watercolor painter with an emphasis on realistic nature scenes and surreal illustrations. Jennifer’s love of the natural world is evident in the use of flora and animals in her work. Jennifer studied watercolor painting with Brenda Kidera. She continued her visual arts education at the Baltimore School for the Arts with a concentration in painting.

After graduating in 2014, Jennifer continued to paint but was intrigued by the world of contemporary paper art. Inspired by the elaborate costume and art design of television shows such as Game of Thrones, Jennifer became interested in textile-based work, especially that of Jeff Nishinaka, creator of the Night King paper sculpture. Jennifer’s visit to Hillwood House Museum’s Pret a Papier exhibit served as additional inspiration and an introduction to “Pulp Fashion”, the art of Isabelle de Borchgrave.
Self-taught in cut paper art, Jennifer uses an exacto knife and her imagination to craft delicate works in 2-D that display movement, texture and dimension akin to sculptural works. As she continues her exploration, Jennifer strives to create pieces that will demonstrate a finely-honed technique and be a source of delight to the viewer. Continuing motifs are foxes, wolves, delicate flowers and lace-like structures.

Jennifer has exhibited works across Maryland including: The Columbia Mall, The Baltimore School for the Arts Segal Gallery, BWI Airport, Howard County Department of Education, Howard County Center for the Arts, Center Stage, Hotel Brexton, XS Restaurant, Night Owl Gallery, Vintage Vault and Gallery, The ClayGround Studio and Gallery, and Mt Vernon Marketplace.

Her paper work “Night Fox” was the Juror’s Choice winner at Art Howard County 2017. Outside of her art career, Jennifer is a fan of the Nerdist podcast and is owned by a Jack Russell Terrier named Tyrion.

In closing: Please come see Jennifer’s lovely artwork along with the original creations of 47 other Local Artists. I look forward to welcoming you to the Gallery. Abundant Kindness, Robin Holliday
