Laurie L. Hansen
Laurie L. Hansen and her husband Fred are from Minneapolis, MN. They have two children and a dog. They decided to relocate to Ellicott City, Maryland in pursuit of a new job opportunity offered to Fred after he completed his PhD in Organization & Management Science.
Laurie studied at Atelier LeSueur where many drawing and painting techniques of the Old Masters were taught. Classes were structured with models for all figure and portrait work. She graduated the fulltime, 4 year program in 1991.
Laurie taught drawing classes at The Minnesota River School of Fine Art in Burnsville, MN from 1995-97.
Laurie has volunteered for various community events in Historic Ellicott City and is a founding member of the Ellicott City Arts Coalition. She’s also been a Silent Art Auction Committee volunteer with the Howard County Arts Celebration, since 2014.
Laurie has leased studio space in Historic Ellicott City since February 2013. First on Main St. (8030) for 1 year and then on the West End (8624 Frederick Road) for 2+ years. She is currently working out of her home studio in Ellicott City, a short distance from Main Street.
Laurie L. Hansen has shown her work at HorseSpirit Arts Gallery in Historic Ellicott City, since the grand opening in October of 2015. In May of 2016, Laurie and Eric Hagemann were featured in: “Cameras and Brushes: An Exploration of Place and Color.”
Laurie L. Hansen received the Honorable Mention Award for her piece, “In Plain Sight” at The 2016 Art of Stewardship-Nature Through the Artist’s Eyes. This annual event is held at the Howard County Conservancy.
Whether working en plein air or in abstract expressionism, Laurie primarily paints with oils. She has developed a unique artform with her “Engraved Boards”. These beautiful pieces offer a new way to decorate your home or office by utilizing transitional wall spaces.
