kehneMary Jo (MJ) Kehne

owl_smallThe simple ballpoint pen has captured Mary Jo (MJ) Kehne’s interest over other drawing and painting media for the past thirty years.  Using random strokes, repetitive lines, multiple layers of ink; forms emerge, and a new imaginal realm is created.  The process is meditative.  Realizing how one part or mark can affect another is never stronger when there is a slip of the pen, or an ink blob enters the paper.  Negotiations ensue often creating yet another new image.  Recognizable fragments may emerge and become developed as well as bizarre imagery from somewhere deep down.

gray_smallMJ Kehne was born in Baltimore and currently lives outside of the city.  Following an undergraduate degree in Art Education, she began graduate work at the Maryland Institute College of Art while teaching in Baltimore City.  After finishing her Masters of Fine Art (MFA), she began another graduate program in art therapy with a focus in archetypal psychology.  MJ supervised the art therapy program at Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center for 26 years.  She continues to maintain her Licensed Clinical Professional Art Therapy (LCPAT) credential.

flower_smallMJ participates in juried and solo art shows, as well as numerous art groups. She discovered the process of Zentangle, and has been a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT) since 2014.  It captures her approach to creating art and mirrors many life philosophies. MJ currently seek groups and venues to teach this easy-to-learn, relaxing and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.

fun_smallMJ Kehne continues to expand her creative expression while encouraging and guiding the artistic journey of others.

Dear Friends, I am thrilled to present Local Artists Chuck Aaron and Bonnie Zuckerman’s Art Show “Fall for Art”, October 1st-21st, 2017 at HorseSpirit Arts Gallery. Chuck Aaron photographs the beauty of nature, landscapes, and urban scenery, as well as turns wood. Bonnie Zuckerman creates stunning hand-painted ceramic art with unique designs.

Opening Reception: Sunday, October 1st, 1-4PM. Come enjoy their beautiful artwork in the company of friends, with festive beverages and non-nutritional food groups!

About the Artists:
Chuck Aaron: His art allows him to create physical objects that express the beauty he perceives in the world around him. His photographs capture visual moments—a bird in flight, fall colors, a child’s joyful exuberance, a rusted street lamp. His woodturning engenders objects that emphasize the beauty of color and wood grain in a way that is both visual and tactile.

Bonnie Zuckerman: She creates highly detailed, one of a kind, hand-painted ceramics. She uses a wax resist technique to create a stained glass effect on her pieces. Each piece of art tells a whimsical story and incorporates imagery from her personal visual lexicon. Favorite subjects include birds and other animals, flowers, and fairy tale landscapes.
In closing: Please come join us for this wonderful art show, as well as see the original creations of 45 other local artists! Abundant kindness, Robin Holliday
