Historic Savage Mill
8600 Foundry Street
Savage, MD 20763
located in the Cotton Shed (or Barn) building

Dear Friends, I am excited to announce that HorseSpirit Arts Gallery's new home is Historic Savage Mill, Maryland. It is an absolutely beautiful location in the town of Savage - located in Howard County. It is located just off the intersection of US Route 1 and Route 32. I plan to open in early November 2018.

In my quest for this new location after the Old Ellicott City Flood(s), my husband (Max Crownover - also known as Sweet Max) and I looked at over 55 places and drove past at least 100 more. Our wonderful realtor Don Barrick (www.bafgroup.com), found us a 3500 square foot space in Historic Savage Mill - in a building called the "Cotton Shed". Don helped negotiate on our behalf and we signed the 5-year lease last Friday! If you are familiar with Historic Savage Mill, our building looks like a barn and we share a parking lot with Rams Head Restaurant and The Queen's Ink art store. Our new space is 2.5 times bigger than our previous space in Old Ellicott City and has 25 foot ceilings. With some paint, elbow grease and love, it will make for a beautiful art gallery!

I would also like to thank our lawyer Tom Coale (tcoale@talkin-oh.com) for reviewing and further negotiating our lease. He is the best!

In closing, I feel very welcomed by the Owners & Team of Historic Savage Mill, as well as by the other business owners! I am excited about this move. I will keep you posted! Abundant Kindness, Robin

Dear Friends,
Thank you for your generosity, support, compassion and kindness over the last 2 months. Many of you held my hand (virtually and physically) while I fell to my knees over the magnitude of this 2nd flood loss. I have taken the last few weeks to emotionally face into what has happened. That is why you have not heard from me. But I am now rising (slowly and steadily) to rebuild my Gallery. And I want you to know that HorseSpirit Arts Gallery will return – better than ever! Of note, the two beautiful (award winning) watercolor paintings featured here are by Artist Brenda Kidera.

I also want you to know how very important you are to me… a blessing in my life. Many of you have contacted me to express your compassion and support. It means more than I can say…. and I am COMPLETELY overwhelmed by your generosity contributing to our GoFundMe site and making separate individual donations. Your kindness brings me to tears. I have always loved being with you in the Gallery and helping you find that special something – a piece of art that you connect with. I know we will be together again soon.

Recovering the art was ONLY possible because of the tireless efforts of the many of the Gallery Artists and members of the Gallery Operations Team. They trekked through the mud with us for several days to retrieve art, load it in a moving truck, haul it to our home, and then clean up and inventory all of it. They also dug through 6 inches of mud (on their hands & knees) to recover over $20,000 of art on the first floor (e.g., jewelry, pottery & metal sculptures). And they spackled & repainted walls and took things apart for the professional movers. They are “Angles on Earth” and I feel blessed to have them as part of the Gallery. I am also grateful to some dear friends who joined into help – as well as a few total strangers! I am tremendously appreciative of our friend & website developer, Karen Brand (www.wingsofthesun.com), who set up the Gallery’s GoFundMe Site. The goodness of people has been so apparent during this harsh time.

A Final Note about the Flood: This flood was worse than the 2016 flood. I originally thought the water rose to 7 feet in the gallery, but at the 3-minute mark in this YouTube video (www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSdCMk5gTeg&feature=youtu.be) you can see the water crash into the gallery at the 12-foot mark. The water rises, then recedes and then crashes into the gallery at an even higher level. Also know that when we got into the gallery we realized that the 2nd floor mezzanine level had flooded, also.

MOVING FORWARD!
Finding our new home: “Sweet Max” (my wonderful husband) and I have enlisted the help of a very capable Commercial Realtor, Don Barrick, (www.bafgroup.com) to help us find a new home for the Gallery. Don and his wife Suzi Padgett are heavily involved in Howard County Arts. Don is on the Board for the Columbia Orchestra and Suzi is the Chairman of the Board for the Columbia Festival of the Arts. We have already looked at over 2-dozen properties in Howard County and we will continue our search for the right place to call home for the next 20 years.

Gallery Art for Sale: We were able to remove ALL the art on the upper floors and the salvaged over $20,000 worth of jewelry, pottery, and other art from the first floor. Many of the items that were in the gallery at the time of the flood are in perfect condition and ready to find a new home. If there is a particular piece of art that you had your eye on in the Gallery but thought you would buy it next time you visited, there is a good chance it survived. If you are still interested, please contact me and I will let you know if it is still available. We are also going to pursue selling some of the gallery’s art via social media in this interim period before we can reopen.

Howard County Arts Council is AWESOME!! Coleen West, Executive Director of HCAC, reconstituted the “ReCREATE Relief Grant” for Artist who lost artwork in the flood. Many people generously donated to this grant. In 2016, this grant significantly offset the losses suffered by HorseSpirit Arts Gallery Artists, as well as other artists in Old Ellicott City (OEC). Thanks to Coleen’s tremendous efforts, I anticipate that once again, this grant will be a godsend for all the artists. Thank you to all those who donated to this grant! I don’t know who you are, but on behalf of all Artists in OEC, I am enormously grateful!!

In Closing: Through this second tragic flood, I have once again seen the very best of humanity. And I gained a renewed faith in the goodness of people and the importance of friends. And as I more forward, I am dedicated to giving back to others the way you have given to me. Abundant Kindness, Robin Holliday
