Rhona LK Schonwald
Rhona LK Schonwald, an accomplished painter, sculptor and photographer, was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. Rhona’s award winning art has been exhibited in numerous juried solo shows, juried group shows, as well as museums throughout the United States. Her works reside in private and corporate collections throughout the United States, as well as in Canada and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Rhona received her Associates of Arts degree from what was then Baltimore Junior College, and then graduated from the University of Maryland with a major in Art Education. Teaching art at the elementary level with a diverse population, where the imaginations of the children were beyond fascinating and helping to facilitate and enrich them, was a supreme satisfaction to Rhona.
Studying jewelry in San Francisco enabled Rhona to become accomplished in both forging and the lost wax process. Turning old pieces of jewelry into new creations (as a joint venture with their owners) provided stimulation and satisfaction for both parties. Rhona’s favorite mentors who have inspired her include: Bennard Perlman, Gladys Goldstein, Deborah Bedwell, and Chin Yuan Chang.
In addition to loving the process of creation, helping others find their creative paths to explore is supremely rewarding to Rhona. With that in mind, and with the help of artist friends, she was one of the original founders of the Artist Gallery in Columbia, Maryland – a co-operative gallery which has been in operation for more than 10 years. Rhona is also one of the founding members of the Oakland Mills Interfaith Gallery in the Meeting House in Columbia, Maryland. Among other affiliations, Rhona is a member of Women In The Visual Arts, and National Association of Women Artists. She was also President of the Bethesda Chapter of National American Pen Women for 4 years.
