battleCecelia Battle

heart_smallFor Cecelia Battle, design is in her DNA, dating back to her great, great grandfather, TJ Collins, a pioneering architect in Virginia, her grandfather and uncle, both architects and painters, as well as her mother and aunt who are artists and painters.

Her education includes an AA in Advertising Design from Montgomery College & a BA in Design from American University. After several years working as an illustrator at IBM, she stayed home with her two children, working under the name ARTcetera, as a freelance artist, creating graphic design, paintings, murals & jewelry.

In addition to HorseSpirit Arts Gallery, her work can be found at The Muse in Frederick MD, as well as local shows at Columbia Art Center, Slayton House, Montpelier Art Center, Howard County Center for the Arts, & The Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival, where she has received several awards for her watercolors.

Her latest creative passion is working with fire, glass & metal to make jewelry. She launched ZingByCecelia, in 2014, & she enjoys designing fanciful works in her home studio. Cecelia’s designs incorporate a variety of methods and materials, including torch-fired enamels, hand-forged metals & magical elements, some with kinetic energy. Cecelia loves collecting treasures & unique gemstones from her travels, and is inspired to create pieces that tell a story or invoke a special feeling for the wearer of her art. She enjoys combining the strong rugged looks of copper, sterling silver, rose gold & brass, along with some feminine sparkle & color. She also incorporates her own glass making skills to create torch-fired enamel & fused glass works of wearable art.

Her passions don’t end with the beauties she produces. She is very committed to her family & non-profit pursuits. She & her husband Mike are involved with CASE, The Center for Adoption Support & Education, a non profit agency that provides support for adoptive & foster families. Their son Steven shares her love of horses & bluegrass music, while working on a horse farm in Middletown, MD, and is a gifted banjo player. Their daughter Michaela, a college senior, is studying Kinesiology, & she keeps Cecelia current with her flair for fashion, & artistic passion for decorating. They all enjoy spending time together on their quiet property among the many trees, gardens & wildlife. And they are silly about their two dogs Dixie Ray & Kena Marie.

Cecelia is inspired by vibrant colors and nature, which you can see reflected in her jewelry designs, as well as her watercolor, pastel & acrylic paintings.  She hopes her creations will inspire and ignite your inner artist.

Deborah Maklowski allowed me to video her colored pencil demo; she began drawing at 12:30 & stopped at 4:30. Besides checking out a students progress (18 seconds) and a lunch break she worked steadily. Imagine if the world paid artists by the hour… Please watch the videos carefully, Deborah lost her kneaded eraser, & we can’t find it, if you see it roll off the table let us know. ☺️ #innerworkingsouterjourneys #horsespiritartist See MoreSee Less

Allison Pasarew wraps, weaves & "sews" her sculptures using impossibly thin wire repurposed from today’s broken & replaced technology. Here Allison stands with her, very impressed, Dad.
Inner Workings, Outer Journeys with Allison Pasarew & Deborah Maklowski runs though Sun, Oct 4th.
